How to submit

The Journal of Computational Astronomy & Astronomical Computing welcomes submission of high-quality papers that align with the journal's scope. Manuscripts, whether reviews or research articles, must adhere to the following guidelines:

  • Manuscripts must be written in Spanish, English, or French.
  • The title should be brief and to the point, followed by the authors' names and affiliations.
  • Include an abstract of no more than 300 words, summarizing the key content of the paper.
  • Organise the manuscript into sections, typically including an Introduction (explaining the scope and context of the work), Methods and Models, Results, and Conclusions. Acknowledgments and references may also be included. This structure may be adjusted based on content type, and shorter contributions may omit sections as appropriate.
  • All figures must have descriptive captions that do not simply restate text from the manuscript.
  • Each table should be accompanied by a caption.
  • There is no strict page limit; however, the Editorial Board may request revisions to better fit the aims of the manuscript and journal scope.
  • Supplementary materials, such as codes, figures, texts, or external links, should be submitted alongside the manuscript.
  • All manuscritps in JCAAC are covered under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 License, and any associated codes under a similar license. If a different license is needed, please notify the Editorial Board for review.

Manuscripts must be prepared using one of the two available templates provided by The Journal of Computational Astronomy & Astronomical Computing (JCAAC):

  • A LaTex template, available here. This template includes guidelines for authors. We strongly recommend using the online platform Overleaf, particularly for authors unfamiliar with LaTeX, as editors can provide assistance through the platform. Lyx may be a useful tool to produce LaTeX code and does not require any knowledge of LaTex.
  • A Word template, available here. This template is not recommended for manuscripts containing a large number of mathematical expressions.

Submissions should be emailed to Esta dirección de correo electrónico está siendo protegida contra los robots de spam. Necesita tener JavaScript habilitado para poder verlo. as a tar or zip file containing all necessary files to compile the manuscript. Alternatively, Overleaf users may share their project with the editors instead of submitting via email.

The submission must be accompanied by a brief cover letter outlining the motivation behind the work, including the key ideas that led to its development and why it was submitted to JCAAC. Please also suggest a potential section for the manuscript.

All submitted manuscripts will undergo peer review by one or more qualified referees from the JCAAC Editorial & Advisory Boards. The referees will provide feedback, after which the manuscript will either be accepted or returned to the authors for revisions. Manuscripts deemed unsuitable for the journal will be rejected.

The Journal of Computational Astronomy & Astronomical Computing is an effort by the FAAE - Grupo de Cálculo Astronómico (GCA) to encourage the use of software tools and the development of codes and algorithms for astronomical applications within the framework of amateur astronomy, as well as to connect the amateur community with the professional astronomy community and promote cross-collaboration and ProAm projects between both groups.
